What is an Apostille?

An “apostille” is a form of authentication issued to documents for international use under the Hague Convention of 1961. This process ensures that legal documents issued in one country are recognized in another, facilitating international transactions and legal proceedings.

It is important to note that an apostille does not validate the content of the document itself; rather, it assures foreign authorities that the signatures and seals are legitimate. This makes the apostille an essential step for anyone needing to present documents abroad, such as marriage certificates, academic diplomas, and business agreements. By obtaining an apostille, individuals and businesses can ensure their documents will be accepted in the respective foreign jurisdictions where they are required.
